Rybnik – you want to live here
Green City in Silesia – this is one of the most frequently used description characterizing Rybnik. Yet, the abundance of green fields – forests, parks, squares and flower compositions is just one of many advantages of the city inhabited by almost 140 thousand people. Thanks to its location amongst waters and forests, the city secures excellent conditions to rest and recreation. More than 150 kilometres web of cycling paths, sports facilities, interesting walking routes, and Rybnik Lake – all these are places where you can actively spend your leisure time.
Rybnik is the city located in south-western part of the Silesian Voivodeship – Rybnik agglomeration. It covers the area of almost 150 square km and consists of 27 districts. It is modernly and efficiently managed centre. For neighboring towns Rybnik is a natural centre for transportation, administration, economy, culture and education and in the Silesian Voivodeship strategy for Development – center of Western Sub-Region.
Many investment projects are carried out for the sake of young residents of the city and of the whole region. First and foremost it is the Complex of Higher Education Schools formed by the city together with three major Silesian universities: the Silesian University of Technology, the University of Silesia and the University of Economics in Katowice. The City Stadium has been modernized and in 2006 the Speedway World Cup tournament was held here. Dozen of modern and fully-equipped gyms were built as well as multifunctional sports and recreation complex, adapted to the needs of disabled people, including indoor swimming pool and modernized sports and recreation hall. State-owned School of Music, where such famous artists as Adam Makowicz, Piotr Paleczny, Lidia Grychtołówna or Henryk Mikołaj Górecki were studying, has found new building. For engagement in international co-operation city authorities were also granted with the European Diploma, the Council of Europe Flag of Honor and the Plaque of Honour.
Rybnik is a city which allocates considerable part of its budget to investments. Many of them are financed from European funds. Among already completed undertakings, one of the biggest project of sewage system construction in the country comes to the fore. These and other investments have contributed towards improvement of city roads condition, has affected educational level and ecological awareness rising and has led to the development of information society and environment improvement. Currently, city road system improvement remains a priority.
City virtues and effects of undertaken actions are being appreciated by investors. Rybnik is one of few cities in the region with investment grounds both in and out of the city centre. The business environment is also conducive to investments. There are non-governmental organizations operating in the city as well as commerce network, banks, advisory agencies, insurance companies and editor’s offices.
The city takes great pride in a fact, that the President of the European Parliament - Professor Jerzy Buzek is one of its honorary citizen.
